Test: AmberBikes carbon components
Well our days, many riders obsession is weight of the bike. Some seems to forget that a deep, dedicated and regular workout is the key for performances and the few grams you can save on the bike is only marginal gain that could make the difference with a very similar level rider.

Also, I was very afraid to loose in comfort and to have a less practical bike. Nothing like this.
So here I am, April 2016 on my KROSS LEVEL B6 I removed my Bontrager Saddle and Handlebar and the KROSS steam and seat post, to replace all this by AmberBikes carbon components. Even I'm far from being a mechanic, installation of the components was really easy. The gain of weight could be felt by simply having the old and new components in hands.
Once on the bike, honestly I could not feel big difference.

My main concern was handlebar strength as well saddle comfort. It really looked to me that after 10 kilometers I'd have to spend rest of the week without being able to sit.
So I went for a first XC ride, and another and another ... I just was enjoying trails having a nervous bike, due to the gain of weight I guess, and I was still able to sit down!

Writing these lines now, I've been riding over 4000km training and races together without any reliability issues. The bike with this configuration took me to many podiums this year in local XC races, and also in local and International 6h and so far two 24h MTB Marathon (next one is in one week). To be fair, in the 24h MTB Marathons I felt so little discomfort in sitting on the second day, but as far as I can recall from past years it also wasn't a piece of cake when your body is close to it's limits.

Finally, I had a few crash and a nasty one in the first lap of the 6h MTB Marathon (crashing with 2 of my team mates). It was bloody end of lap, and on the top of that I broke the RockShox remote and my computer support in the crash. I've heard in the past many stories of how weak the carbon is to such kind of crash, but surprisingly, after inspection (and washing myself from all the blood, I was able to go back on track and even stand on the third step of the podium).

Pros:
  • Quality/Price ratio
  • Weight gain
  • Different sizes for handlebar/stem/seat post
  • Minimalist design fitting any bike
Cons:
  • Saddle could not fit to every rider
  • Only one saddle size (so far)
24H Poland. 1st place in front of Poland and Russia teams.
